MiNightVet Chester

MiNightVet Chester is a small animal out of hours veterinary emergency service, welcoming dogs, cats, birds, exotics, poultry and small mammals. We are based in Chester providing emergency overnight and weekend care to clients.

Our service is also available to clients from other practices who have arranged this. Please see the list below to find out if your veterinary practice can use our service.

The MiNightVet team provide a dedicated emergency service with full-time night staff who will be alert and effective even at unsociable hours. The qualified vets and nurses have a special interest, experience and training in all aspects of urgent critical care.

Samantha has worked in small animal practice since graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2009. She started off life as a vet in the Highlands of Scotland before following her roots back to the Wirral. Samantha is particularly interested in emergency and critical care and enjoys the variety and fast pace that comes with providing out of hours care at MiNightVet. Outside of work she spends most of her energy looking after her two young children and two Springer Spaniels. On the odd occasion that she has any energy left, Samantha enjoys running and hill walking.

Becky joined the practice in October 2014. She grew up in Cheshire and returned after graduating from Edinburgh University in 2007. She is no stranger to Cranmore Vets where MiNightVet Chester is based, as her first work experience placement was at the Childer Thornton surgery. Becky has a particular interest in behavioural problems of dogs and cats. Becky adopted a very laid back cat called Brian and enjoys photography in her spare time. (Becky is currently on maternity leave).

Alex previously lived and worked in Barcelona where he progressed to becoming a senior veterinary surgeon before joining the team here at MiNightVet. He will later this year complete a postgraduate degree in surgery and anaesthesia from the University of Barcelona, and then will enrol on the certificate of advanced veterinary practice in emergency and critical care. Alex has three rescue cats called Fiona, Momo and Lumen.

Emma qualified with a distinction from the University of Liverpool in 2015. She began working for ChesterGates as a student in 2013 where she worked as an out of hours receptionist and ever since then she has had a passion for emergency and critical care. Emma is a committee member for the BSAVA and arranges clinical talks for vets and veterinary nurses locally. As well as emergency work she has a keen interest in exotic species and surgery. Outside work Emma cares for her young daughter and likes to keep fit. She has a doting cat Jessie and 16 rescue hens (we won’t name them all!).

Rebecca graduated as a veterinary surgeon in 2017 from the University of Liverpool. As a veterinary student in her last two years she worked at MiNightVet as a receptionist, gaining skills in the out of hours team. Rebecca has a keen interest in emergency and critical care medicine and we look forward to supporting her to progress in the role. In her spare time she enjoys walking her Corgi, Jasper, and competing with her horse named Ruby in dressage.

Laura qualified from the University of Bristol in 2014 and returned home to the Wirral in 2015, where she has been working in first opinion practice since. Laura enjoys both medicine and surgery and is currently studying towards a certificate in medicine. Outside of work Laura enjoys walking her young Cockapoo, Lola, and is hoping to do some agility with her when she is old enough.

Laura qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2011 and joined the MiNightVet team as a night nurse in 2014. She enjoys the fast paced challenging environment of emergency work and the varied cases that walk through the door. Laura has a particular interest in wound care. Away from work she enjoys spending time at home with her partner and her three crazy Chihuahuas named Ivy, Bernard and Theo.

Jade graduated from Myerscough College as a veterinary nurse in July 2014 and immediately started work in small animal practice. After a short time, Jade joined us here at ChesterGates in April 2015 to work as a referral nurse during the day, and two years later decided to join the team at MiNightVet. She looks forward to the excitement of various different scenarios and the variety of cases that are seen out of hours. She really enjoys wound management and late night caesarians. Jade lives at home with Cooper, her Daschund, and enjoys walking, hiking, and cycling with Cooper by her side. Other hobbies include karate, running and reading a good book (usually animal related).

Kim qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in January 2017 and, to progress her role in the veterinary world, joined MiNightVet in February 2018. Kim is particularly dedicated to theatre practice and inpatient care and in the future is looking forward to progressing her knowledge and studying emergency and critical care in more depth. Kim has always been passionate about animals and has five family dogs and two mischievous cats. Outside of work Kim likes to spend time with family and friends as well as keeping busy caring for her four-legged friends.

Gemma initially started working for ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists as a kennel assistant in 2009, before becoming a registered veterinary nurse in 2013. Shortly after this she moved to the MiNightVet team. Gemma has a keen interest in intensive care nursing and exotic animals. In her spare time she looks after her own pets which include two snakes, three bearded dragons and three cats called Loki, Timmy and Caspian. Gemma also takes Caspian as a volunteer to Pets as Therapy.

Selina became an RVN in 2009. She has worked in numerous first opinion practices where she gained great experience. Selina has completed a course in ‘pet loss in veterinary practice’ which enables her to offer support to clients that are struggling with the loss of their pet. Selina has a keen interest in rabbits and has completed a course in Rabbit Awareness Education. She joined MiNightVet Chester in June 2018 and is really enjoying her varied role. Outside of work Selina has a house rabbit called Bert and a dog called Louie, and enjoys spending time with her family and her pets.
